COTW

Kenzie McKenzie

Spencer Heeney

Repeat COTW offender Andrew "Kenzie" McKenzie and fresh faced lifting legend Spencer Heeney take home the coveted award this issue. With both written and verbal compliments being sent their way, it's hard to ignore a job so well done.

"Thank you for providing the invoice for yesterday's move. I would like to sincerely thank Kenzie and Spencer for their outstanding work. It was a tough move, with tight staircases and tricky turns. Kenzie and Spencer were nothing but accommodating, careful, and efficient. I can't thank them enough for all of their help. If there is a way you can forward this message to them, I would be grateful. Thanks ever so much."

Consider it forwarded, nicely done you two, catch Jack Tandy around the depot for your well earned reward.

Health & Safety Representative

Thom Lidgerwood is the winner

Thom Lidgerwood has been elected to serve alongside Anthony Perry as the two Health & Safety Representatives for Abbotsford. Whilst Thom was elected with a majority of 51.43% of the vote, it was a tightly contested race with the other candidates, Oscar "Peterson" Paterson and Lance Gannon. Thank you to all candidates for running positive campaigns. All the baby kissing, ribbon cutting, and rolled up sleeves passed the pub test.

If you work in Abbotsford and have concerns about your health and safety, speak with Thom Lidgerwood and or Anthony Perry. If you're in Cranbourne, your HSR is Graeme MacLean.

Flu shots

Get the microchips to work for you

'Tis the season to be sneezin'. Tomorrow is the first day of winter and the sniffles are already taking hold. The Man encourages everyone to seek out a flu shot in order to minimise the risk of sickness and transmission. To incentivise this, The Man will gladly reimburse all staff who get a flu shot. Just bring your receipt into the office and it will be processed along with the next pay cycle.

How do breaks work?

Let's Break it down

The fear, uncertainty, and doubt surrounding the break logging system needs to be addressed. If your shift is less than 5½ hours, you are not required to take a break but can do if you wish. If your shift is longer than 5½ hours, by law you are required to take a continuous unpaid 30 minute meal break. Ideally this should be somewhere between 3½ and 5½ hours into your shift. It's the law and the employer's responsibility to ensure this happens.

You are permitted to take multiple breaks throughout your shift as required but one of your breaks must to be a continuous 30 minute break. If you log both a 20 minute break and a 10 minute break throughout your shift, neither of these are counted as the required continuous 30 minutes. If this happens, when you log off at the end of your shift, the computer will find your longest break - in this case, 20 minutes - and extend it to 30 minutes thus recording that you took a 30 minute and a 10 minute break amounting to 40 minutes in total. A rumour that has been heard is that if you record a 35 or 40 minute break, it will be rounded to one hour. This is untrue and will not happen. If your break is at least 30 minutes continuously 30 minutes or more, it will be recorded as is.

Check it! Text it!

Behold the contents of the white tub in all their glory

Before you leave the depot in the morning , check your truck and the white tubs to make sure you have all that you may need. New containers, easier to see equipment. Don't have what you need? Replacements are in the spares area next to the medium trucks,

Who are you? Where are you? What are you in? If you don't text which truck you're in, it's impossible to communicate with you and the other vehicles.

Communication is the key to a simpler day.

Gig Guide

Aidan Jones is an excellent comedian

I'm hosting a show in Richmond (so close to the depot!) on Saturday, 8 June from 6-8pm.

It's me doing an hour of comedy with a few friends from the Melbourne comedy scene opening up the show for me beforehand. It's going to be sick, and is already halfway to selling out.

Aidan Jones presents 'Pianoforte': I grew up playing classical piano, but failed my conservatory audition at 18. After some time focusing on MDMA, I started stand-up in 2011. During the pandemic I came back to the piano, so now this: Chopin's famous Nocturne in Eb (Op 9 No 2), presented with jokes by a bald dickhead with a beard (me). And here's the link to the event itself! https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/aidan-jones-presents-pianoforte-tickets-900791109457

MWAV discount code: 'FRIENDS' it'll reveal 2 tix for $30
